What it Means to You

Trainings built just for you and your team
One of the unique things about my training style is the individualized approach I take.
It's never one-size-fits-all.  Each component of the staff training is built around your mission, your goals, and your staff.  Sharing information about your site, program, and staff allows me to structure our activities to focus on current strengths and challenges.  Future trainings at your site build on the work we've already done.

Customizing continues onsite
Our trainings take place over a minimum of 2 days (you decide how much time each day) at the same cost others charge for one day.
This allows a few powerful things to happen:
  • Workshops are most effective when individuals have a chance to apply it through direct experience.
  • Neurology research shows that 90 minutes or less is the ideal amount for our brains to internalize information.
  • Tying life skills to job skills within a day helps staff see connections and use what they've learned in their jobs.
  • Having time in between sessions allows me to talk with you and your staff to increase what's effective.
  • Seeing people in action doing other trainings, work projects, meetings, etc. gives me insights to your site & staff.
  • 1-3 hour sessions allow staff to invest fully and make them eager for more.   They can't wait to see what happens next.

What it Looks Like
Trainings vary greatly due to staff, culture, and goals.  Here are more examples of my work:

Situation: Summer Admin. Staff; ages 24-70; strong culture & tradition; 3 training days
Goals: Accountability, Consistency, Mentoring
Training components: reflection, small & large group conversations, problem solving exercises
Sample session: (Tools for Success I) Large group talks about common goals & issues for the staff they supervise; introduce mentoring handout     (go deep or go broad); small group breakout by job focus, identify areas of strength for general staff & areas of challenge, prioritize needs,
strategize how to address most important areas; discuss ideas in large group

Results: Camp Director & Admin. Staff reported increased trust, appreciation & accountability for individuals and
gratitude for group solutions to ongoing program issues.

Situation: Non-profit Org.- Program Staff; strong, divergent personalities; ½ training day
Goals: Communication, Efficiency, Respect, Strengthen working relationships
Training components: personal awareness, small group discussion, collaborative problem solving
Sample session: (Communication) Individuals talk about what motivates them at work, their strengths and communication style; appreciative
inquiry about success in projects/ communication amongst their staff, acknowledge contributions of individuals; apply success to areas that are
more challenging (how can strong 1:1 communication help with meetings?)

Results: The Program Director reported a vast improvement in group meetings (more productive and enjoyable), higher
appreciation, respect, & enjoyment amongst staff

Situation: Environmental Education Staff; 9 mo. job contract; 2 training days mid-season
Goals: Professional development, Goal-setting, Community building, Leadership styles
Training components: Team building games, reflection, 1:1 conversations
Sample session: (Leadership & Goal-setting) Group participates in team & leadership activities to acknowledge diversity of group &
approaches; Individuals do goal-setting worksheets, meet 1:1 w/ facilitator to discuss action steps & outcomes; facilitator observes staff
teaching, follow-up discussions of ways to use strengths, improve, accomplish goals

Results: The EE Director reported increased quality of teaching, improved staff communication & higher levels of
understanding and accountability as a supervisor.

Bottom line- Being at your site longer increases value to your training without increasing your costs.
